Contemplating About "Place"

Some more brainstorming:
Place.
Home?
Work?
School?
Placement on the board?
Not my place to say?

I remember that my teacher once told me that he wished he could pick me up and place me in a pack of wolves to see what I would do. Does the place challenge the person? Do the circumstances affect the place?

1st place? 2nd place? 3rd place?

Where do I position my hands when I play an instrument?

A dream place?

A separation between friends? Lovers? Family?

Place. Such a small word, but with infinite affiliations.

3. "Can you use cinema, a visual medium, to transmit that physical sense of place and culture? Can the images allow viewers to experience cinema as a physical and multisensory embodiment of culture, not just as a visual representation of experience?"

Yes, you can use cinema to mimic the physical sense of place and culture, but it cannot replace the real thing. You can record the sounds and you can record the visuals, but I feel that in order to get the full sense of the space, there are other senses that we use such as smell and touch. But there is magic in cinema. Even though it isn't the same as experiencing reality, it does evoke emotion. It does drag you into a new place. It's like you become lost in the new world, if it's done right at least. A new place, a new reality. (But then it goes back to wonder what's a place)

4. Reconsider -- What is a "sense of place?" What does it mean to be a person in a place? How do people shape places, and how are they shape by them? Can places be in our minds as well as etched in the physical landscape? Are our identities a kind of place, in and of themselves?

"Sense of place" It's like you know where everything is laid out like a map in your head, I suppose? A compass in your brain? A "mind palace"? But a sense of place could be a sense of belonging. It could be the physical sense or the emotional sense. "Sense of place" could be referring to understanding your surroundings. But a "sense of place" could be fitting in. Being at peace. Knowing that when you go with a group, you have a place, you have a purpose.

"What does it mean to be a person in a place?" A person in a specific position?  Like a doll in a doll house? Everything must be in pristine shape as well as in their place? People having a calling? A person found their place for a living? The search? A person going through the motions of everyday life? Hm.

"How do people shape places, and how are they shaped by them?" Well, by communities. By having people around, they share ideas. In a sense, they help create a place. A physical and emotional place. By people having roles, they have a "sense of place," but they also have a physical space as well. Ideas are shared, the people talk and communicate, and they work together to form a physical place. They shape the places they live in, but the space also affects them. The people they're around, the technological advances (or lack thereof). The place forms a culture, and the culture becomes embedded in the people. It becomes a cycle of people and place.

"Can places be in our minds as well as etched in the physical landscape?"I suppose they can. I mean, where do you go when you daydream? You're not really focused on your surroundings, but on the imaginary realm, right? I mean, you remember places as well. You remember scents, you remember the tastes, and you remember the imagery, but after a while, it's washed out. But you know it well. It's embedded in our minds, but I don't think we can remember it with such precision. At least, I can't. Memories on top of memories and suddenly, you still know how the place is, but it's washed away.

"Are our identities a kind of place, in and of themselves?" I... I never thought of it that way. Hm. I guess we have a saying "a place in our heart". So I guess it's logical to connect them together and say that identities could be a kind of place. Our identities as students or workers, as children or elders, they have a place in our mind.
